Tallow River Dispatch May 2004
CAPTAIN'S NOTES: Greetings From River Tallow, I wish to thank all the folks who came out to the meeting and potluck. Also thanks to those who gave committee reports and other important ideas that were shared with the group Our 2nd rendezvous of the year is around the corner and the 3 wise men in charge are Jon Bridgman, Alan Fisher and Ted Nelson (the 3 stooges). They have many activities planned. Also the twins Justin and Kendra Clower are having a little graduation party. Congratulations to both Justin and Kendra. We still need volunteers to sign up to water our new trees and to man the visitor center. If a lot of folks spread out these projects we can keep from burning out a few. I have contacted a Scout troop to build some new tables and benches for our gathering place (cantina). If you wish to d onate money for this project, let me know. Thanks to Bunny Dukeman for the plans. I read a declaration at the last club meeting by a legendary mountain man, J. F. Ballard that seems to sum up the general philosophy of the time: “My mother was a badger, my father was a Griz…I can out shoot, out fight, out cuss and out drink any man. I have the fastest horse, the sharpest knife, and the finest rifle in the mountains. Hear my challenge echo in the valleys for any man of any nation to try to lift my topknot. I will fight to the death for my right to be a free man, to trap the beaver and to hunt the elk, to drink from cool streams, and to sleep under the stars. I have no road to follow, I make my own. I have no man to answer to accept myself. I fear no creature on God’s green earth, for I am a MOUNTAIN MAN.” Thanks to Donna Bear for asking me to include this. Watch yer top not and keep yer fires small. Wah! Otto Ota Captain Bear Claw DONATIONS FOR LANCASTERS AUCTION Please call Jon Bridgman if you have any items to donate for the auction.
