CAPTAIN'S NOTES:

Greetings From Tallow River,

Frozen Toes Rendezvous was a great success thanks to Dave and Bunny Dukeman and No Powder.  I also want to thank my friend Mato for sharing with us a special pipe ceremony with Joseph Winterhawk.  Thanks are also in order for all the TRT members who set up a mini-rendezvous for the Scouts and leaders at Chautauqua – Jan Clower, Mike & Ryan Shaver, Dan Davidson, Dan Rascoe, Jim & MaryAnn Lynn, Bob Harder, Joan Morris, Steve & Deborah Pollack & family, Kurt & Janet Ballantyne, Lee Schultz, Mike & Shane Mount & Bear Claw.

Things are starting to green up and so are the new trees that were ordered for the rendezvous area.  We will soon need help for planting, more news to follow.

Dig out all those greenbacks to spend on fooferaw and plunder at the Winter Convention.  See you there.

Keep yer fires small and watch yer top knot,

Otto Ota Captain

Bear Claw

BOATING TREKS

Seeking Mountain Men – Trekkers interested in setting up some boating treks next year.  We have joined others and built flat bottom pirogues that work very well.  They are not that difficult or expensive.  You may also use modern canoes.

GATE COMBINATION CHANGE

The combination on the gate has been changed.  Please call an officer to get the new combination.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE FROM THE RANGE OFFICER

On a more serious note, I would like to take time to remind every shooter of some basic rules for the range.  This is prompted by some violations over the past couple of months.  Most recently one noted at the Sunday shoot:

There were 2 pieces of concrete that were 10 yards from the 50 yard firing line on the range floor that someone had been shooting at.  This is not only against the club rules and all rules of common sense, it is just plain dangerous and stupid.  Ricochets are bad enough off the range floor without adding a rock or concrete to help out.  Failure to abide by the rules could result in termination from the club and / or c call to the police.  If you see anyone doing something dangerous or destructive, please call one of the officers.

·                     NO shooting at any targets on the range floor.  ALL targets will be posted on the cellotex mounted between the posts.

·                     NO shooting at the posts.

·                     NO shooting at rocks ( I can’t believe I have to even mention this one)

·                     NO hunting loads. Target loads are 1 ½ times the caliber.  The only time hunting loads are permitted is for hunter site in.

·                     NO sabots, bullets, mini balls or plastic patches of any kind.

·                     NO shotguns.  Black powder shotguns are ONLY allowed at sanctioned matches.

·                     Remember to sign in and there must be two (2)-licensed drivers to shoot at the range.

FROZEN TOES BOOSHWAY REPORT

Frozen Toes Rendezvous 2004 has now become a memory, a really good one.  Hope everyone has as good a time as we did!

We had 47 hardy folk who came and stayed.

We had really good response to the added perks of being a Tallow River Trapper.  We sold 12 memberships ($470.00).  Some brand new, some renewals.  Most everyone like our new improvements. (Members got a camping fee discount).

On Friday the whole camp enjoyed our Segundo’s (No Powder) famous stew.  It gets better every time!  We also had some really yummy sweets for dessert provided by some of the great camp cooks!  The feast started with a blessing given by our friends Mato and Joseph Winterhawk.

On Saturday we started out with an auction for the fort fund.  We made $381.00.  This was followed by our 5th annual bent spoon chili cook-off.  Our judges, LuAnn and Ted Nelson and Nancy Dawdy had a tough job picking a winner!  They finally picked Perfesser for the best red chili and Rick Hosker for the best green chili.  They were presented with a pot holder mitt in the color of their winning chili proclaiming they were the best in 2004!!  This was followed with a camp pot luck.  We have some really great cooks in our group and they all outdid themselves!!  We did all these thing inside our ole cantina which is now our gathering center.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us make this a fun event and we make a little money too for TRT, SPVHS and added to the fort fund.

See you at the next event,

Keeper of the Key (Dave) and Key Master (Bunny)

MINUTES FROM February 28th Meeting

Captain Otto Ota brought the meeting to order.

The previous meeting minutes were read and accepted with one correction, Diane Nesmith had made the motion to make the Hunters Widows Rendezvous a TRT sanctioned event.

Garry Dawdy read the new fees proposal.  The new fees were passed by a vote of present members.

Grounds report – Mike Mount reported that $100 had been spent to purchase 110 trees.  He is also having a meeting with a state forester and a botanist on Wednesday March 10 to look at a long term plan for the rendezvous area.  Kurt Ballantyne suggested that the Boy Scout troop scheduled for a May 1 campout could help plant the trees.

Jan Clower, President of SPVHS, said a few words.  She mentioned that there is board position open; if anybody is interested in applying, please call her.  She said that the Donnelson House is finished but needs furniture and a fence.

Mike Shaver and Dan Davidson would like to be booshway for Trapper Days 2005.

Camp Rules – A committee has been formed to look at the current camp rules.  Members of the committee are the current booshways, Mike Shaver, Jim Lynn, Ava Coleman, Kurt Ballantyne and Donna Bear.

Easter Egg Hunt/TRT Campout
The Optimist Club of Ft. Lupton will be hosting their annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 10th at 10:00 at the Rendezvous site. This will be the first time it will be held there and hopefully for the next 20 years or so. They have asked if we would set up an encampment and be available to visit with the townspeople, children and adults.  If anyone is interested, please plan to join us.  We will charge a small fee of $5.00 per camp for a hooter fee.  This will be a great opportunity for SPVHS and TRT to shine within the community.  The Optimist Club will provide press coverage before the event and photos and articles in the Ft. Lupton Press after the event.

MARCH SHOOT RESULTS

I would like to thank all the shooters who came out to the Sunday Club Shoot March 14th at 10am.  There were a total of 20 shooters present.  There were 5 targets to choose from including the 2 club targets for 50 yard and 100 yard.  The club targets have a built in handicap to help get the new shooters involved and scoring higher.  As you can see by the scores, there were some close matches.  In some cases only ½” separated any two shooters.  The snake at 25 yards was especially challenging.  With the 20 shooters there was $41.25 paid out in prize money to the top three in each target. The club took in a total of $58.75.  There was also one new member signing up……
