Other Events

The South Platte Valley Historical Society holds other events of historical or social interest at various times throughout the year.

Donelson House Teas are modeled after the English "Afternoon Tea."   These fun events are open to members and non-members.  Private Party Teas can also be arranged. For a description and photographs of a Donelson House Tea follow this link.

Independence School Classes: From time to time 1870's classroom sessions have been organized for interested students and teachers. Three sessions of classes are being offered in 2010 for students of all ages starting in June and running through July.  For more information and an application form follow this link.  Space is limited so sign up now.

Historic Park Tours:  Enjoy a leisurely tour of the Fort Lupton Historic Park.  The tour takes approximately 2 hours, but can be shortened if necessary.  The tour includes the 1875 Independence School, the 1860's Donelson House, and the reconstructed Fort Lupton

Turkey Basters:  This is a member only pre-Holiday Social, pre-Thanksgiving potluck feast.  This is not a camping event, though some do choose to come out and make a weekend of it.  Period clothing is not required, but is encouraged.

Hunter's Widows Rendezvous:  This is a special rendezvous for women and children.  Men are not allowed unless they wear a dress and take on the Indian role of Wingkte, or Berdache.  This event is not open to the public as spectators, however, non-members are welcome as participants.

Christmas Dinner and Dance:  This social event for SPVHS and TRT members and their guests is held in the Rendezvous Room of the Fort.  In 2009 a Contra Band provided period music with instruction for the old dances.
