During its September 2000 board meeting the Society's Board
of Directors authorized the purchase of a used modular building to be
used as a temporary visitor center. Once the fort and permanent Interpretive Center are built,
the temporary center will be sold and moved. Volunteers have been busily
preparing the building for occupancy by installing electrical service,
new walls to replace walls that were damaged by the roof leaking, new
plumbing, deck and ramp for access to the main entrance, and deck and
stairs for access to the rear entrance. A contractor was hired to
replace the roof. Once the Visitor Center has been approved for
occupancy, it will temporarily house the Society's office, a gift shop,
a reference library, and reading room. |
